Housecall Pro Alternatives
If you have technicians to dispatch, Jobber is the alternative most people at that size land on, and ServiceTitan is where big shops go. If you are the one on the truck and what you actually need is a quote, an invoice, and a file your bookkeeper can import, you are paying suite prices for three features, and a smaller tool costs a fraction of it. This page lists both, including the options that beat us.
Why people go looking
Almost never because of a missing feature. The public one star reviews cluster on the commercial side of the relationship rather than on the software. Four of them, quoted word for word:
I signed up for a 28 day trial and at the end of the 28 day trial they were supposed to contact me to see if I wanted to continue with it. Instead they pulled almost $500 dollars out of my account without consent
He cancelled his plan with them. They charged him $189 again. He called them and asked them why they would charge for the upcoming month and they said it was a mistake and would correct the error
they have started sending customized messages to customers, that we did NOT okay to be sent. These messages have lost us jobs.
I used to like house called pro.A lot, but all they do is change stuff all the time, just to make their software, people relevant.
Those are one company’s reviews, and every tool in this category has a page of them, including tools recommended further down this page. The point is not that one vendor is uniquely bad. It is that the thing that goes wrong is almost never the feature list, so comparing feature lists is the wrong way to pick the next one.
Five things to check before you hand over a card
Ask these of whichever tool you are looking at, including this one. Every one is answerable in about five minutes, before you are a customer, and every one of them is something people have filed complaints about.
- What happens on the last day of the trial. Does it stop, or does it start charging? Get the answer in writing, in the chat window, before the trial starts rather than on day 27.
- Is cancelling a button, or a request. Ask them to show you the actual screen. “Someone will call you to process that” is a different product than a button, and it is the single most common thing people are angry about.
- Does the bill go down when you drop a technician. Per seat pricing that only moves in one direction is a real pattern. Ask what happens the month after you remove a user, not what happens when you add one.
- Can they message your customers without asking you. Review requests, booking pages, automated follow ups. Find the switch that turns it off and confirm it is off by default. The complaints that cost people actual jobs are the ones where a feature got switched on for them rather than by them.
- What you keep if you stop paying. Not what the salesperson says. Ask specifically: after cancellation, can I still open and export my invoice history, and for how long.
If a tool answers all five cleanly, it does not matter much which one you pick. If it dodges one, that is the one that will show up in your bank statement later.
The alternatives
| Tool | What it is | Scheduling and dispatch | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jobber | Field service suite | Yes | Solo up to small crews |
| ServiceTitan | Enterprise suite | Yes | 20+ techs, commercial work |
| Workiz | Suite with phone system | Yes | Phone line and jobs in one place |
| FieldPulse | Field service suite | Yes | Small to mid shops |
| Service Fusion | Suite, priced by plan | Yes | Big crews, no per seat bill |
| A quote pad and a spreadsheet | Paper | No | One person, a few jobs a week |
| This site | Quotes and invoices only | No | 1 to 5 people, owner on the truck |
The scheduling column is the fork in the road. If you dispatch people to jobs, the two rows that say no are not options for you, and the rest of this page will not change that.
Two pricing details worth knowing before you start clicking. Jobber publishes its prices by plan, and each user above the plan’s included count costs extra. ServiceTitan does not publish prices at all, so finding out what it costs means going through their sales process first. Check every price on their own page rather than on ours. Everyone in this category changes pricing, and a comparison page quoting last year’s numbers is worse than no comparison page.
Which one, by situation
- You dispatch two or more people to jobs you did not personally quote. You need scheduling. Look at Jobber first. Nothing on this site will help you.
- You are twenty technicians and doing commercial work. ServiceTitan is built for that, and you already know it costs accordingly.
- You want the phone system and the job software to be one thing. Workiz is the one designed that way.
- You have a lot of people in the field and hate per seat billing. Service Fusion prices by plan instead.
- You are a growing shop looking at FieldPulse. Fine, but get the length of the term in writing before onboarding starts, not after.
- You do a few jobs a week and genuinely hate software. The pad in the truck is still a real answer. It loses on looking professional and on typing everything twice, and that is the whole reason to leave it.
- You are on the truck, you quote it, you do it, you bill it. That is the case this site was built for, and it is the only case it is built for.
What this site is, and who should not buy it
It does three things. You build a quote on your phone before you leave the driveway, with your company name and logo on it. When the job is done the quote becomes the invoice without retyping the line items. At the end of the month you export a CSV that QuickBooks Online imports.
It does not schedule, dispatch, route, take payments, or contact your customers. It never will. If you need any of those, one of the tools above is a better answer and you should go use it.
The reason the terms above are terms and not marketing is architectural. There is no server holding your documents. They live in your own browser, which is why stopping payment cannot take them away from you: we do not physically have them. The honest cost of that design is the other side of the same coin. Switch computers or clear your browser without exporting first, and they are gone. There is a one click export for exactly that reason, and a page that walks you through setting up a second computer.
Price
$29 a month for the shop, not per technician. Month to month, no annual term, cancel yourself in one click from your own account page, first month refundable in full. No sales calls, now or ever. The number is on the page because you should not have to sit through a call to learn it.

More on the three pieces: quoting, invoicing, and the QuickBooks Online export.
Questions people ask before they buy
What is the best Housecall Pro alternative for a one or two person HVAC company?
It depends on whether you need scheduling. If you are dispatching people to jobs, Jobber is the usual answer at that size. If you are the person going to the job and the only things you need are a quote, an invoice, and something your bookkeeper can import, a smaller tool costs a fraction of a full suite. That is the case this site is built for.
Is there a Housecall Pro alternative with no contract?
Several are month to month, but the term is not the part that catches people out. Read what happens at the end of the trial and whether cancelling is a button or a request that someone has to action. Public reviews of several tools in this category describe cancellations that did not stop the billing.
Do Housecall Pro alternatives export to QuickBooks Online?
Most of the full suites offer a live two way sync. This site does a one way CSV export instead, on purpose, because a sync that goes wrong quietly is worse than a file you look at before you import it. QuickBooks Online takes up to 100 invoices per import and does not accept the IIF format that QuickBooks Desktop uses.
What happens to my invoices if I stop paying?
Ask this before you sign anything, whichever tool you pick. On this site your documents are stored in your own browser rather than on our server, so stopping payment cannot take them away from you, and the export button keeps working. The cost of that design is the honest one: switch computers or clear your browser without exporting first and they are gone.
Do I have to move my customer list to switch?
Not to try something. You can run the next job through a new tool without moving anything, and see whether the quote and the invoice come out the way you want. Moving history is a separate decision, and it is worth checking that your current tool will actually let you export it before you need it.
